Irish singer-songwriter Moncrieff releases his new single ‘How It Ends’- a gripping and dynamic pop anthem.

The song is a vulnerable reflection of an old love who helped the singer through some of the darkest moments of his life, offering a bittersweet goodbye to this person. Moncrieff shares ‘When my brother passed away this person literally held me together at a time when I couldn’t see a future for myself.’ You can feel the emotional depth within his potent vocal delivery, pulling you in and sinking into his storytelling from the offset.

The song begins with a melodic piano, and sets the scene with moody synths and the sound of ticking, emphasising the passage of time and transporting back to a pivotal moment of his life. Moncrieff’s vocals
are raw and sincere, taking us through each step of the song’s journey. The chorus comes in with a bang, with the perfect blend of hard hitting percussion and powerful, anthemic vocals. The addition of the layered backing vocals echoing the lead intensifies the passion, and amplifies the emotional weight of the track.

Writing about the making of the song, Moncrieff says ‘It’s about a time when I felt so strongly
about someone that I couldn’t fathom the idea of never seeing them again, despite the fact that it was long over.’ This sentiment is perfectly expressed in the chorus: ‘I know I’ll always love you. You’re still the voice inside my head.’, capturing the relatable and haunting ache of the invisible thread between you and someone that was once so central and influential in your life.

The bridge’s chanting ‘oohs’ carry through to the end of the song and brings a sense of warmth and community to the final chorus, taking a song that feels layered with grief and nostalgia to a feeling of shared
resilience and motivation. Moncrieff’s beautiful and heart wrenching melody sticks with you, and the soaring lyrics ‘I wanna know how it sends’ leaves an imprint and highlights that life’s direction is unknown until we take those next steps.

Moncrieff’s vocal tone and style has the power to match some great artists at the moment, from Benson Boone to Tom Grennan. ‘How It Ends’ is definitely a track that belongs on the radio - the perfect song for you to belt the chorus at the top of your lungs with your friends in the car!
